Off-The-Couch Journey Into Fitness – Week 2

Week 2 of my Off-The-Couch journey into fitness.  We’d love to hear how your workouts are going!

Monday 11/26/12
Not-Run – 30 minutes, nose breathing
Perfect Pushups on knees – 5-4-3-2 reg, wide, narrow
Wall squats x2 @ 1 min each
Random thoughts:
I increased the pushup count and had trouble keeping track – I am a sad sack if I have trouble counting 5, then 4, then 3, then 2…
Wall squats – not ready to increase yet – these are really tough! Was watching food network while doing them. Michael Chiarelli’s mascarpone cupcakes burned into my brain.
Not-run was challenging, despite good conditions outside. My sinuses were painful and I felt like my lungs and heart were getting such a workout – amazing considering how slowly I’m shuffling along…

Nothing ‘cos of the snow storm, but check out Mr. Intrepid here:

Wednesday 11/28/12
Not-Run – 30 minutes, nose breathing
Perfect Pushups on knees – 5-4-3-2 reg, wide, narrow
Wall squats x2 @ 1 min each
Random thoughts:
Perfect pushups were ok – wall squats are still painful – hard to imagine when I will be able to do them without all muscles screaming for holy mercy.
Not-run – just came to realization that for the last few of these I haven’t had to take any walking breaks. Could it be getting slightly easier? Also noticed that my lungs weren’t bursting and gasping to fill up with air. Funny thing, air – when your lungs can get their fill of it, you can move faster.

Thursday 11/29/12
Not-Run – 30 minutes, nose breathing
Perfect Pushups on knees – 5-4-3-2 reg, wide, narrow
Wall squats x2 @ 1 min each
Random thoughts:
What Not To Wear is a good show to watch when doing perfect pushups and wall squats. Keeps your mind off the agony.
Run – always striving to not be stressed. I have always been too easily stressed on a run – by anything, really – like if my earphones hurt, if someone else is going much faster, if I’m too hot, too cold, hungry… but something about the nose breathing and taking it all back to basics means it’s less stressful – so I dread it much less. Today on the way back a police car stopped and the officer asked if I could keep my eye open for a lost puppy. How nice to live in a town where the police are out looking for lost puppies in the afternoon. A few minutes later the puppy’s owner also stopped to ask if I could look out for the puppy. Hope they found him – it’s getting cold out.

Friday 11/30/12
Not-Run – 30 minutes, nose breathing
Perfect Pushups on knees – 5-4-3-2 reg, wide, narrow
Wall squats x2 @ 1 min each
Random thoughts:
For someone who professes not to ‘dread’ working out anymore, I certainly do stall… Today I didn’t start the “not-run” till 2:15. It went ok – did more uphills so was back to sloooow and steady. I’m really beginning to understand firsthand about cardio vascular fitness. You really have to be able to get enough air going through your lungs to be able to move faster. Today I tried out some new GladSoles with flat laces. Rich has been experimenting with them, and we’ll be rolling them out if we decide they’re up to snuff. Wasn’t bad and gave me something to reflect on as I went.

Sunday 12/2/12
Not-Run – 30 minutes, nose breathing
Perfect Pushups on knees – 5-4-3-2 reg, wide, narrow
Wall squats x2 @ 1 min each
Random thoughts:
While doing pushups & wall squats I had Paula Deen’s show on. She was deep-frying an entire ham and said that the only thing she and her husband exercise are their lips – yeesh!
“Run” wasn’t too bad, though it is still a big challenge, and I feel that heart and lungs are getting a real workout. Sam snarked “nice form with pushups on your knees” at me – oh, kids…
